The new Peak Pro is released recently by Puffco. Some call it Peak Pro 2 or Version 2 but Puffco call it ‘The New Peak Pro’. The previous model was revolutionary in the world of concentrate vaporizers and is widely popular among all types of users. This new Peak device is designed to perfection. From the magnets on the case to the intelligent chamber, the joystick cap and even the app, they are all innovative and seamless. The performance is consistently great, very predictable and accurate. The Peak Pro has always been No. 1 choice of extract users, and that is solidified even more with this release.
Inside the Box
This new kit is pretty basic and only includes the following five items;
- A hard foamy protective case
- A dab tool
- Charging cable
- Few dual tools
- The New Peak Pro unit
Main Components of the New Peak Pro
There are 3 main components to this new Puffco device, the glass, the body/base and the chamber.
The glass bubbler – More Airflow and Cooler Vapor
Puffco New Peak Pro has the same cone shape that we know from the previous version but with a few upgrades. It feels heavier and sturdier. The old bubbler weighs around 81g while the new one is 96g in weight. This new bubbler also provides more airflow and cooler vapor. There are now 5 laser-cut air holes at the base of the bubbler, instead of two in the previous version.
Since the carb cap has more holes and allows more air into the coil, the increased holes allow more air into the bubbler. The air travels upwards into the vortex-shaped grooves. This design, also called a percolator, is known to increase airflow and cool down vapor in glass bubblers. These grooves set the theme for the New Peak Pro, as they also extend to the body, around the chamber and even in the trimming and the case. It gives the Peak more personality over the old version and makes it look more modern.
Upgraded Base – New Mood Lights
The front has one activation button and has tap vibrations, meaning a slight haptic feedback when pressed. The base also has a USB-C port at the back with the Puffco logo right above it. Both the old and the new versions support USB-C or wireless charging with a power dock that’s available separately. The bottom has a light ring and there are also lights under the bubbler, which together will communicate the device status and heat settings.
A firmware update just opened up the functionality on both devices to activate ‘mood lights’. While the device is not in use, you can use one of the built-in presets or you can even make your own ‘moods’ and save them. The white version of this new device has a semi-transparent body, so you can see the light through the casing. The black version is not transparent and the lights only show on the top and bottom.
New Upgraded Chamber with Joystick Carb Cap
Until this new version, the 3D chamber was not included in the kit and it had to be purchased separately. But now it is finally standard with each New Peak Pro. There are a few upgrades over the old version. First, both the digital interface and the mechanical locking mechanism of the chamber’s connection to the base have been upgraded. The chamber connects more easily now with an easy quarter turn.
Also Puffco New Peak Pro now comes with a raised carb cap that allows you to direct the airflow to the corners of the chamber and get maximum extraction from the concentrates. They call it a joystick and there is a good reason for that, it snaps back to the center as soon as you let go and has a very tactile feel to it, almost like a gaming controller. It is very satisfying to fiddle around with and it is super functional when it comes to extraction efficiency and vapor quality. It is also worth mentioning that it has 4 air intake holes while there are two in the previous version.
Chamber and Bubbler Cross Compatibility
The old chamber has a red trim and the new one has a black trim. The chambers of both devices are practically the same and are cross compatible between the old and the new units. The bubbler of this new device is also cross compatible with the previous model.
New Intensity Mode – Four Preset Temperature Settings
The Peak Pro has 4 preset temperature settings with a single click to toggle. Blue is the lowest, then green, red and white. There is one extra mode that you need to know about, as it is not mentioned in the manual. It is called intensity mode and its accessible by clicking the button 5 times. This is not a fifth heat setting. Its available for each of the 4 settings independently as an enhancement of that particular setting. For instance, if you set it to green, which is the second setting, and click the button five times, it will blink all colors briefly and then switch to green, same on the rest of the settings.
This mode is not just a temperature bump, like boost mode, which is accessible by double tapping during a session. Intensity mode is some algorithmic magic that the Peak Pro does with the way it heats the dabs and it creates prominently thicker clouds that also seems more potent. This mode is also available for the old Peak Pro with a firmware update through the App. So if you own the old one, it is better to update the software immediately.
The Puffco Connect App
The Puffco Connect App is extensive but here are few things that you can do with the app. You can view the battery level, heat setting, current temperature in the chamber and your usage. You can also edit the four heating profiles and add new ones, enter temperature, duration and even vapor production control. For example, if you have a profile with temperature 510°F, a quick 15 seconds duration, maximum vapor production and purple light, you can name it as you prefer and save it to your list.
In addition, you can even save it to the device so it is accessible without the app. There is something very cool about vaping with the app. The corresponding colors and even the countdown timer around the live display of the chamber temperature, it gives the experience another dimension. The app is very well-made and works great. Most importantly the app enables software updates.
Real Time Temperature Control – A Unique Feature
The most significant feature that differentiates the Peak Pro from cheaper e-rigs is real-time temperature control. In most of the e-rigs, the wax gets burnt and spend very little time at the ideal temperature/voltage levels. This is not the case with the Peak Pro, it heats up in a controlled way and makes real-time adjustments to keep a precise temperature in the chamber and does not burn your wax. You can even view this live with the mobile app.
The Peak Pro has multiple temperature sensors in the coil and a micro-chip that makes real-time adjustments to keep the temperature consistent regardless of how much you load or how hard you inhale. This makes a huge difference when it comes to flavor but it also goes a long way when it comes to efficiency and this new device will easily make you stretch your dabs the longest way. The same amount that will give you 3 nice hits with the New Peak, just burns away in a second with few of the cheap rigs.
Differences Between the New Peak Pro and Peak Pro
The 3D chamber of the new version is included in the kit. The new unit has the joystick carb cap. There are multiple airflow improvements – more holes in the carb cap, in the bubbler and a vortex-shaped internal cone. It has improved locking mechanism of the 3D chamber. There are now tap vibrations on the button.
Similarities Between the New Peak Pro and Peak Pro
Both the units have same shape and form. Intensity mode and mood lights are available with both units via a firmware update. Both units support the app, USB-C or wireless charging and real time temperature control. The glass, chamber and other parts are also interchangeable between the units. While the experience is not substantially different than the old unit, the package is more complete with the 3D chamber and the new joystick carb cap is now included in the kit.
Although this new device is not cheap, but it will save you extracts in the long run when compared to other rigs that will just burn them because the coil gets too hot. Above all, the flavor of the extracts with the Puffco New Peak Pro stays fresh all the way to the end of the session.
