Dr Dabber Switch 2

The Dr Dabber Switch 2 is a desktop-class electric dab rig that heats concentrates by induction instead of a coil. An infrared sensor reads the temperature of the insert itself and holds it anywhere between 250°F and 650°F, so the number you set is the number your dab actually gets. It is the second generation of the Switch platform, and the version we demo at all six of our Metro Vancouver stores.

What changed from the original Switch

Three things, and each of them matters at the counter. The IR sensor is new; the original Switch estimated temperature from the coil, while the Switch 2 measures the cup directly. Next, the quartz insert grew to 20 mm, which Dr Dabber puts at 300 percent more capacity than the original’s cup, so you load a full dab without it climbing the walls. And the app arrived: Bluetooth pairing lets you build custom heating curves instead of choosing from fixed presets. The battery also stretches to around 50 heating cycles on a charge, up from what the first version managed. If you already own the original and it still runs well, the upgrade case rests on the sensor and the app. Anyone buying a first rig has no reason to look at the older one.

Why induction changes the hit

A coil heats from one side. Induction heats the insert from every direction at once, which is what “omnidirectional” means on the spec sheet, and it is the reason the Switch 2 produces the same cloud on the first pull and the last. There is no hot spot at the bottom of the cup and no cold edge where oil pools and burns late. Heat-up runs 5 to 30 seconds depending on the temperature you pick, and the glass-lined alumina ceramic oven around the insert keeps flavour clean session after session.

Three heating modes

Descent starts at your set temperature and drops one degree per second while you draw, so the hit stays smooth as it goes. Ascent runs the other way, opening cool for flavour and building to a finish. Steady holds a single temperature and adjusts output to your inhale and your dab size. Most owners settle into Descent for daily use and keep Ascent for the good stuff.

Switch 2 versus a Puffco Peak Pro

These are the two rigs shoppers cross-shop at our counters, and they solve the same problem in different ways. The Peak Pro 3DXL heats a ceramic chamber through its walls and wins on portability; it fits in a bag and runs on a smaller battery. At 725 g and nine inches tall, the Switch 2 is built to live on a table, and it wins on temperature accuracy and per-charge endurance. Buy the Puffco if the rig travels. Choose the Switch 2 if it stays home and you care about a measured cup temperature more than a compact footprint. Charging, app, and daily use

The Switch 2 charges over USB-C from the included 36 W charger in 60 to 90 minutes, and it supports pass-through use, so a dead battery never ends a session. Above the port, three LEDs show charge level; the light grid on the face shifts colour with temperature so you can read the setting from across the room. On iPhone, the app runs through the Lab Link Browser at drdabberapp.app; Android users install Dr Dabber Sync from the Play Store. Pair once, then set temperature with the physical buttons or the app, whichever is closer.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Dr Dabber Switch 2 worth it over the original Switch?

For a first rig, yes without hesitation: the infrared sensor gives you real temperature control, the 20 mm insert takes a proper dab, and the app opens up custom heating curves. Owners of a healthy original Switch are upgrading for the sensor and the app; if neither matters to you, the older unit still dabs well.

How many dabs does the Switch 2 get per charge?

Dr Dabber rates it at about 50 heating cycles, and that matches what we see on the demo unit at moderate temperatures. High-temperature Steady sessions pull that number down, and pass-through charging means the count only matters when you are away from a plug.

Which temperature should I start at?

Set 500°F in Descent mode for a first session. Move down toward 450°F if you want more flavour and a softer hit, or up toward 550°F for bigger clouds. Because the sensor reads the insert directly, small changes register, so adjust in 10-degree steps rather than 50.

Can I use the Switch 2 for dry herb?

Not on the standard setup. The Switch 2 ships as a concentrate rig with a quartz insert, and the induction cup, insert sizes, and heating profiles are all built around oil. Our e-rig collection covers the concentrate side; for herbs, look at a dedicated dry herb vaporizer.
