Hoyo de Monterrey is a highly regarded cigar brand with a history that dates back to 1865. It was established by Don José Gener y Batet, a Spanish immigrant who moved to Cuba in 1831. The brand takes its name from the “Hoyo de Monterrey” plantation located in Cuba’s Vuelta Abajo region, famous for its rich soil and top-quality tobacco.

The brand quickly gained a strong following, particularly in the British market, and Don José Gener built one of the largest cigar factories in Cuba. After his passing in 1900, the company stayed under family management until it was sold in 1931 to Fernández, Palicio y Cía, the same group behind other renowned brands like Punch and Belinda.

Following the Cuban Revolution in 1959, Hoyo de Monterrey cigars continued to be produced in Cuba under state control. For markets where Cuban cigars are restricted, non-Cuban versions of the brand are crafted in Honduras by the General Cigar Company.

Known for its exceptional craftsmanship and consistent quality, Hoyo de Monterrey offers a diverse range of cigars that cater to both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts.
