Smok Rigel Kit is a 230 Watt device. The Rigel kit takes two 18650 external batteries that are not included in the box. Moreover, the mod is very light weight even with two batteries in it, and is ergonomically designed to fit your hand and pocket as well. Furthermore, this device comes with a TFV9 sub-ohm tank and it does come with two coils. Markedly, this device is portable and super easy to use. It goes up to 230 Watts and it does have a very simple menu system being that it’s Wattage only.
Inside the Box
The Smok Rigel comes in a colorful and informative box. The box got some information about the device on the sides. After opening the box, the first thing you are going to get is a user manual which tell you everything that you need to know about proper working of the device. You will also get a battery information card and device verification as well as a warranty card. You are going to get some extra O-rings and gaskets, a Type-C charging cable, a tank, spare glass for the tank, a spare coil and the device itself. The spare glass is not a bubble glass but a straight one having a capacity of 5 ml.
Removable 810 Drip Tip
It has a removable 810 drip tip but this is not a standard 810 because it does have the O rings on it. Moreover, this device does have a child proof cap.
Filling the TFV9 Sub Ohm Tank – Pod Capacity
It does hold 6.5 ml of e-liquid. Filling may look complicated but it is easy. In order to fill, you are going to find the arrow right below the drip tip, just lift from the top and push back where the arrow is pointing, and then it will swing back and you will see the filling port for your e-liquid. After filling, simply close the top, it will swing back to its position and will lock down. This mechanism prevents it from opening accidently in your pocket. This tank is 28 mm in diameter and it does say ‘Designed by SMOK’. You do have a protruding 510.
Newly Designed Improved Airflow
On the bottom of the tank it has this new airflow design that they have come out with. It basically gives you two little slits of airflow on each side, almost making it like you have got four different air flow holes because they did put a split in it. Whatever you do to one side, it does happen to the other. You can close it down to just one on each side or you can have it fully open, whichever way that you want.
Opening The Tank – Glass and Coil Changing
In order to open the tank up, just unscrew the bottom, once you do the coil is right there. If you want to put the straight glass on, you can take the bubble glass off and put the straight glass. Most people prefer bubble glass. You can remove your coil to change it or you can go ahead and take it out.
TFV9 Mesh Coils – Priming Up
This device comes with TFV9 mesh coil, having a rating of 0.15 Ohm, with a working range between 40 to 90 Watts. The coils of Smok Rigel are very similar to the coils of some other devices that use the V9 coil. Whenever you are using a coil for the first time, it is recommended to prime up your coil. That means putting some e-liquid around where you see some cotton in the coil, and a drop in the top. It will help the coil to get saturated faster. Once you fill it up, leave it for about 10 minutes and it will produce great flavor and vapor.
Spring Loaded 510 – Capable of Fitting Atomizer up to 28 mm
On top you do have a spring loaded 510 and this does fit up to 28 mm atomizer. The dimensions are actually 88 mm x 44 mm x 28.8 mm at the widest part. You can fit up to 28 mm atomizer. It does have the type C charging port in the front just below up/down button. The fire button is situated above the screen. On the back of the device it says Rigel and on the bottom you do have some battery ventilation.
New Magnetic Battery Door with Ribbon Inside
They have changed the place of battery door in this device. It has got a little cut out on the lower side of the mod so that you can lift this up. The battery door is magnetic and has got two very strong magnets. When you remove the battery door you will see that it has got your battery orientations i-e +ve and –ve. It does have a battery ribbon which helps to take out the batteries easily as sometimes it’s hard to get the batteries out. The battery door fits really nice and once it’s on there, it does not move and sits properly in its place.
Turning The Smok Rigel Device On – Wattage only Mode
To turn the device on, click the fire button 5 times. This is a wattage only mode type of device. You can’t change it to any other type of modes like temperature control or voltage or anything like that. It’s literally wattage only, which is really helpful specially for beginners.
Screen Display Info
When the device is on, the screen will show the following details;
- Battery indications
- Wattage
- Your voltage which show when you are firing it
- Resistance
- Puff counter
- Time vaped; that means the amount of time that you have actually pressed the fire button.
Few Shortcuts on Smok Rigel
Locking the Device
You can lock the entire device by clicking the fire button three times. This will lock everything, that means locking your fire button and it’s going to lock your Wattage up and down too. Clicking the fire button 3 times will unlock the device.
Wattage Locking
If you want to lock just the wattage, press the up and down buttons at the same time. You can still vape it while the Wattage is locked. To unlock Wattage, do the same thing i-e press the up and down buttons at the same time.
How to Change Colors on the Screen of Smok Rigel?
If you want to change the colors on the screen, press the fire and up button at the same time. Just tap the buttons and it will change colors. There are 6 different colors options of the screen; red, yellow, purple, white, blue and green.
Clear Your Puffs
To clear your puffs, press the fire button and down button at the same time. After pressing these buttons together, screen will show you option of clearing your puffs, choose yes, press fire button and the puff counter is clear.
Smok Rigel Wattage Settings
This device goes from one Watt all the way up to 230 Watts and it does round robin, which is amazing so you don’t have to worry about going back up or down. You can actually do it because it round robins whether you go up or down.
Pros and Cons of Smok Rigel
The mesh coils of Smok Rigel are super flavorful. They are really improving their coils, every single time they come out with new coils, Smok is actually enhancing the flavors. The best thing about this device is that it is Wattage only because for a beginner the kit should be Wattage only. It’s a lot easier just having the one type of setting that the beginners need to worry about rather than going into temperature control etc. It does go up to a full 230 Watts but of course the coils are not made for 230 Watts as the resistance of the coil is best between 40 to 90 Watts.
It is recommended not to take it too far up because you will burn out the mesh but you can vape any lower than 40 Watts if you want. So if you want to vape this at 20 Watts, you can do it, you just can’t go over the maximum. It uses two 18650 batteries that are not included but they fit so well in the battery door of this device. You don’t have to worry about opening the bottom or anything like that. It has a really well rounded airflow. Another huge pro is the new top fill, where it’s got that safety cap on it so that it’s not going to open on its own when it’s in your pocket or in your purse.
Batteries and Charging
The mod takes two 18650 batteries that are not included. It does have Type-C charging but it is not recommended to charge the battery within the device. You can charge the batteries inside of the device but try to use an external charger, that will save your battery life as well as the device life.
